UNBOUND
Oil on Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(No Framing Required)
24" X 36" X 1.5"
In a quiet moment of realization, it becomes clear that what defines one's sense of personal power is a set of mostly self-imposed restrictions. To accept ourselves as largely unfettered and limitless, is to be liberated from expectation. Only then can we truly think outside the box...

A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME
Acrylic and Oil on Stretched Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Optional But Not Required)
16" X 40" X 1.5"
What matters most is what something is - not what it's called. Shakespeare had it right; a rose by any other name could never be anything but sweet.

A WAY IN
Oil on Wood
Sides Painted Black
(No Framing Required)
30" X 30" X 2"
Sometimes we can feel like an outside observer in life, unable to participate in the good times and happy experiences we perceive others around us are enjoying. We might feel helpless to find a way in to that world, to be included, to be part of the party....and in our isolation, we oftentimes miss seeing the door....

MINDFUL
Oil on Wood
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Not Required)

GUARDIANS
Acrylic, Oil & Ink on Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Optional But Not Required)
30" X 48" X 1.5"
There's an ethereal quality to nature's balancing act, an indescribable force standing guard over our environment. Perhaps this guardianship is responsible for the way in which the earth miraculously heals itself, despite man's doings in the world...

FATHOM
Acrylic & Oil Pastel on Canvas
Installed within a black floater frame
60" X 48" X 1.5"
We use the word “fathom” to measure the depth of water, but also as way to express comprehension of a thing. Tidal pool water reflects a world within a world, with every crevice brimming with color and life, seemingly unaware of anything outside its sheltered reality. Little to measure in terms of depth perhaps, but to comprehend such a profound and mesmerizing feature, a thing of philosophy indeed.

SHE
Acrylic, Ink & Oil on Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Optional But Not Required)
48" X 30" X 1.5"
I came upon her in the deepest woods...surrounded by living green, her stance unwavering and rooted to the ground, although she no longer had any. Utterly feminine, a force to be reckoned with. She wasn't going anywhere...

HE
Oil on Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(No Framing Required)
30" X 40" X 1.5"
A swagger in his posture, I fell instantly in love with him, his confidence and virility an irrefutable fact. An entranced state made invisible the truth of sharp and thorny barbs. Not even the hazards of love would deter me from a path I knew I would take.

THE BARE BONES OF IT
Acrylic & Oil on Canvas
Installed within a black floater frame
20" X 20" X 1.25"
In the quiet hours, there are moments of realization about the simplicity of things. The hustle and bustle of the day dissolves into memory, and we feel our shoulders relax a little...our breath deepening and lengthening in time with the shortening of the day. And there it is - another day ending. But did we stop to notice the color of its passing?

Summer evenings splash the landscape like no other time of the year, with an amethyst stroke, a palette of tranquil hues makes us fall in love with the world. The promise of a period of happiness, success, and fulfillment is in the air, like a song on the lips. But if I know a song of the world, does the world know a song of me?

TRANSFIGURATION
Oil on Stretched Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Optional But Not Required)
36" X 48" X 1.5"
A dramatic change in landscape draws the eye, but it’s the appearance of sudden radiant light that reveals to the soul the great beauty, spirituality, and magnificence of natural phenomena. Such moments of realization are transcendent - beyond category, beyond the limits of experience. Sand is not just sand, rocks are not just rocks. The femininity of nature is irrefutable.

SECOND NATURE
Oil on Wood
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Not Required)
18" X 24" X 1.5"
Patterning throughout nature acts as a connective tissue between disparate things. The potential of creation lies dormant within the allium bulb, an inference of possibility and all that might be. The power to become is the real magic; what nudges a thing into being?

THE BIG GAME THEORY
Acrylic, Mixed Papers & Ink on Wood
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Not Required)
80" X 28" X 1.5"
Complex ideas such as "The Big Bang Theory" are commonly discussed and generally understood, but only fundamentally grasped by specialists - not the common man. Similarly, the notion of economy and wealth are fleeting concepts brokered by the elite on Wall Street and Capitol Hill. In these difficult times, as Boardwalk and Park Place crumble, ensnaring many, the middle class keeps drawing cards from a hopelessly stacked deck. They cling to their lives on Illinois or St. James Place, hopeful that their street of dreams is real and not simply part of The Big Game.

EVEN THE BEST LAID PLANS
Acrylic/Mixed Media on Stretched Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Optional, But Not Required)
48" X 36" X 1.5"
The life we aspire to build for ourselves is often also a cage of our own making; because the mind craves structure and meaning in order to make sense out of a seemingly disordered and chaotic world, we rely on relationships and related identities to understand our place in the big scheme of things - to realize a sense of community, identity, belonging.
But what begins in earnest can sometimes take on a life of its own - a life not necessarily envisioned by our internal selves. The weight and circumstance of resulting life, architected and evolved by each in turn, can leave the spirit feeling trapped and burdened. We long to fly away, but are held fast by responsibilities and obligations.

GOING UP RIVER
Oil on Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(No Framing Required)
30" X 40" X 1.5"
We often talk of life in terms of water, using figures of speech to communicate and describe processes of deep emotional experience. Encouraged to "go with the flow", to resist less the forces in our lives - human nature is instinctively programmed to rail against limitation, to defy odds. We rise to the test, resolute in the belief that we can fight our way through impossibility.

LAYING DOWN ROOTS
Mixed Media on Canvas
Acrylic, Assorted Papers, Natural Fibers
Sides Painted Black
(Framing Optional But Not Required)
20" X 16" X 1.5"
When a woman feels the drive to start a family and "lay down roots", people jokingly say she's feeling "broody". It's a biological urge, and when upon us, we sometimes make that home in haste, not considering the foundations of the union, the impact of parenthood, the changes both will bring to our freedom and array of choices. The safety we imagine in the family "unit" is a metaphor on several levels, but we don't always see things for what they really are.

Each Individually Framed, Brushed Silver Metallic
12" X 48" X .75" (Finished Size)
Latitude means freedom from limitations; the beauty of this piece, inspired by landscape, is that it can be oriented in a variety of ways, and still be aesthetically pleasing.
That's the thing about nature..... we never get tired of looking at it, regardless of orientation.

LETTING GO OF "I"
Oil on Canvas
Sides Painted Black
(No Framing Required)
24" X 36" X 1.5"
How often the word "I" creeps into conversation, asserting itself with casual disregard for other pronouns. This redirection toward self changes the balance of things. We focus less on what others contribute - being only partially involved in the exchange. Egotism and self-involvement can render even the most sentient of us deaf, dumb, and blind.
